National monument to Victor Emmanuel II. (Italian Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II) or the Altar of the Fatherland (ital. Altare della Patria) or “Il Vittoriano” is a monument in honor of Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of united Italy. It is located in Rome between Piazza Venezia and Capitolio. The monument was designed by Giuseppe Sacconi in 1895. It was completed in 1911.
